I can't imagine anyone would buy this book without loving Wordsworth and, therefore, loving this book as a matter of course. So I give it the highest review because it is Wordsworth at his prime. It is the 1805 text, which was not published but was reviewed by Coleridge and others of WW's Romantic cohorts. WW continued to revise and tinker with this work until he died, and the work was not published until after he died. I have not studied the text published after his death because I was mainly interested in the early text when WW was at his full powers. The scholars of WW mostly agree that all his best work was done by 1810-1815 or thereabouts (even Percy Shelley complained in print circa 1917 that WW had lost his mojo). I take his and the critics' word for it; sometimes the more you tinker with the writing the more it stinks of the lamp. One thing I can complain about is that the binding on this particular edition (Oxford Press) is already falling apart with a few pages having come loose from the apparently poor glue job. I am not teaching this book but if I were, the book would be in bad shape, I would assume, by the end of the semester with all the rifling I would be doing in a classroom. Therefore, I give WW's writing five stars but the publisher only 3 stars.

The text of the 1805 has so much more life to it than the over-worked posthumous edition. My only grumble is that the supporting commentary is so moth-eaten. Won't the publishers offer an updated scholarly context for the benefit of readers?
To be able to listen to while reading Wordsworth's Prelude made a huge difference. The only thing missing in this recording is the lack of tracking of line numbers to find one's place within each Book.
Hard study helped mightily with this book.
This edition causes my to freeze.
This is Wordsworth's 'autobiography' The 1805 version capures his spirit better than later editions.
It is really a dozen or so long (very beautiful ) poems about nature and the life of a poet in nature.
A classic.
Important revision by Wordsworth in later life of his 1805 blank verse autobiography. A comparison of both editions reveals a maturity from Romanticism to Victorian moralism. Anyone interested in the growth of English poetic form should be captivated by this thrilling document.
This book is unique in English literature. I recommend buying both the audiobook and the ebook so you can follow along with an expert reader. (Poetry is to be spoken, not merely read.) In one of the later chapters, Wordsworth describes his experiences as a witness to the surging momentum of the Revolution in the French countryside. Biographies of Wordsworth often say he was an early supporter but later became "disillusioned" with the Revolution. The reality, in his own words, is so much deeper.
