Blind in one eye, Lieutenant Peter Thorton is back in British service and made acting-captain of His Britannic Majesty's frigate Ajax. Battered by the onslaught of the vengeful Spanish, the Ajax is in a sorry state when she is ordered back to England. M. Kei is so cool. If you haven't read his adventures--so far there are three--get them. Right now. The main character is reminiscent of Hornblower. Watching him make a name for himself, win respect and the occasional command is a ball. And Kei is completely conversant with sailing and the sailors life.Our hero's search for love maintains just the right balance, at least from a woman's point of view. That is to say, he's not getting it on w/every pair of pants that catches his eye--to most women this wd be a bore and a disappointment. It distances one fm the given character. He, our hero, however, makes connections that matter to him while still looking, without yet finding, Mr. Right. Meanwhile, his first love is service aboard a ship at sea. The life.
